The Speaking Picture Book - the subject of a previous post - is one the freakiest, funniest items in the special collections of Cambridge University Library. It's a Victorian novelty whose farmyard sounds are all made by pulling cords that operate a set of wooden bellows hidden inside. I wanted to say more about it, but I'll just let the book do the talking. Here's a tune I made by recording the sounds and playing around with them.
